Why is SC so big in Korea?

This is very complicated and hard to explain with a simple and single sentence. It could be the best answer, 'right game in the right place and right time', I guess. StarCraft has a lot of good and strong points enough to be so big in Korea. WoW and Warcraft III is huge in Korea as well. |

Cydra and I were actually chatting about this the other day. Even still, I am amazed at how much StarCraft is much more than a game in Korea, it is indeed embedded in their culture now. Similarly, the US loves football/basketball, it has become knowing the who the top players are, the top teams, fantasy sports, etc, even more than 'actually' playing those sports themselves. In Korea it is the same, there are even more people who know these famed e-sports names and StarCraft events than the number who even currently play the game actively. Though Cydra would know best, he has spent most of his life growing up in that culture of StarCraft. Feel free to shoot him any questions about it - as even I am curious still to know all the reasons how it got as big as it has (there is even a StarCraft class being taught at UC Berkeley right now! http://k |
