I'm sure we can all contribute to this, even if we feel like this game is perfect the way it is. There are some things we go "Man... I wish I had this unit" or "Man, I wish I could do this strat..." etc. These are not to be confused with "I hate starcraft cause these things aren't here anymore" but rather these posts are just a discussion :)
My top 5:- Reavers - Easily my favorite starcraft 1 unit. Not only were they cool looking, they were an extremely devastating alternative to the terran seige tank.
- Scouts - Awesome air unit. It was intimidating to be harassed by these because they could take a few hits before going down.
- Goliath - Reminds us all of every movie or animation of futuristic armies. Starwars, Aliens, Gundam, W40k... there's plenty of lore out there involving mechs. They just feel like man's attempt to play god on a mechanical level.
- Hydralisk - Tier 1.5, its size. It felt more at home here. Plus, you got to see it more often. Now most games all I get to see are roaches dying to my marauder armies *cough* :)
- Maps with open starting areas - I don't remember every single map in the original game having ramps or bridges stemming from the main start location. I felt like I had to prepare differently depending on what kind of map I play. Now every map (except one I think is called Scrap Station?) has a small ramp coming from the main.
