Starcraft Battle.net Logon Error

Hi,

For awhile now my Starcraft game has not run on my Vista partition. I have an XP partition and a Vista partition and at first, for a few months, Starcraft did run on the Vista partition. Starcraft runs flawlessly on the XP partition.

When I run Starcraft on the Vista partition now and upon attempting to log onto Battle.net, I receive a cutoff "Connecting to Battle.net" box. When it connects (usually just a couple of seconds), I get an error at the log in screen saying "The instruction at 0x0082ab8c referenced memory at 0x060ce000. The memory could not be read."

I've tried running as an administrator. I've tried running in compatibility mode for Windows 95, 98, XP SP2, and anything else that's in the list.

Also, one player works great.

I've never had this happen before and I've been playing Starcraft since I had an old 333 with Windows 95. It's really surprising how it worked then but this next generation stuff doesn't work properly.

Hi, Hm_karen,

Sounds like Vista may be having problems reading the memory. Fortunately, Vista comes with a memory test that picks up most errors on the RAM itself.

To access the Vista memory test:

Using this tool will require a reboot so please save any documents you have open.

- Click Start.
- In the Start Search field type in Memory and hit Enter.
- The first option you see should say Memory Diagnostic Tool.
- Run the Memory Diagnostic Tool - A window will pop up asking you if you want to reboot and check for problems not or check for problems the next time you restart.
- If you choose to restart now, Vista will reboot into the memory diagnostic utility.

The universe is already insane. Anything else would be redundant.
