So about that fifth class?

I remember before blizzcon 09 everyone was in a buzz about how someone mentioned that they've already finished the class ideas and that all they needed to do was to finalize them. In fact I remember another post where someone sourced that the last class was something that they wanted in D3 since the beginning.

I was just curious as to why they only waited like 3 weeks after blizzcon 08 to release the wizard, and yet they've only released one class (the monk) in the past 13 months.

And yeah I understand that there are other things that they are working on like the other 3 acts, and monsters, and lore and such. But wouldn't the logical thing be to get the characters and the HUD done first before completing the rest of the game?

I would also understand if they were done the class and they just didn't want to release it for secrecy and hype value, but just the fact that it's done would be pretty nice to know.

!?

Well the game was originally announced with the barbarian and witch doctor. BlizzCon '08 saw the announcement of the wizard (at BlizzCon, not three weeks after), and BlizzCon '09 saw the announcement of the monk.

The fifth class was something that was decided early on, but after continuing to work on the game and the other classes it just wasn't up to standards any longer. So it's back on the drawing board.

We only have one class left to reveal, it's sort of a major card we can still hold close to the vest. While development doesn't depend on our plans to reveal it, we definitely aren't going to tell everyone what it is just because we know what it's going to be.
