Shrines - Generally only one person can get the benefit of these, they appear randomly around a level, and they give random benefits like +magic find, +Attack, +defense, Etc.

What's bad about shrines is that the benefit goes to the player that clicks it the fastest. So, for example, the magic find shrine, which ever player clicks it the fastest will get better loots. Because of the individual drops that players will get it's disconcerting that 1 player will receive all the benefits. My solution to this is below.

I propose that you change shrines into power-up orbs that drop and apply individually per player.

So, each player, once they kill an enemy, the enemy has a low chance to drop a power-up orb for each player, once a player picks that orb up they should receive the benefit individually and not as a whole. (I.E. Monster drops orb for player A (no other player can see the orb), Only Player A receives the benefit from the orb)

Once a player picks up the orb, they receive a benefit, like they would with any shrine, the benefit lasts x seconds long, and we're all happier for it.

Power-Up orb suggestions -

+ Attack

+ Defense

+Magic Find

+Resource generation/regeneration

+Run Speed

+Attack Speed

Etc.

This sounds like a much cooler idea then shrines that only one player can get.

Shrine buffs apply to the entire party as long as they're in range.

As far as "power-up orbs" it's something I thought of as well, which usually means the designers thought of it a year+ ago. Not as a shrine replacement though, but as a replacement for buff scrolls/elixirs. I just either forget to use them or let them sit afraid of wasting them. So they just take up bag space. I face the same dilemma in WoW and usually just end up throwing them on the AH because I realize I'll never use them. Obviously some people are better than me, and able to remember to use them, as they usually sell.
