SC2 Crashes When Opening
by Msemily.emily | 09/03/2010 01:35:55![]() I just downloaded and installed the beta last night, and every time I try to open it, it crashes almost instantly and Windows says that it has to close. Sometimes on the very first loading bar when opening the game, it'll get about halfway, and then crash. Other times it'll crash without even getting to that stage. I've tried reinstalling SC2, I've tried updating video drivers, I've tried reverting to old video drivers, I've tried running as administrator, none of those things seem to have worked so far. Here's some system specs - Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit AMD Athlon II 2.60GHz quad core 4GB RAM ATI Radeon 4800 HD Here's the crash report I'm getting - Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: SC2.exe Application Version: 0.6.0.14259 Application Timestamp: 4b90c46c Fault Module Name: Battle.net.dll Fault Module Version: 1.0.0.17577 Fault Module Timestamp: 4b7cdbb2 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 0044a2be OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 68e5 Additional Information 2: 68e549a88f06556ecdb5 Additional Information 3: f483 Additional Information 4: f483bb9a47441be50d57 Read our privacy statement online: http://go.microsoft. by Charlesps | 09/03/2010 02:50:19![]() Hello Msemily Some systems may reach high temperatures and overheating conditions while running StarCraft II. This is mainly due to the video card rendering the screens at full speed. As a workaround, there are two lines that you can add to your Documents\StarCraft II Beta\variables.txt file to limit this behavior. Frameratecapglue Frameratecap=60 The frameratecapglue controls the framerate at the menu screens. The frameratecap controls the framerate on all other screens. You may adjust these numbers to your liking. Technical support needs your feedback. Please take the time to fill out a survey using the link below and tell me how I am doing: https:// |

by Charlesps | 09/03/2010 04:19:23![]() Are you using the Realtek card for your network connection or do you have a wireless USB card that is being used? Can you download and run HWMonitor and check the temperatures of your video card and CPU? http://w We are looking for temperatures when the game is not running and for when you launch the game. by Charlesps | 10/03/2010 01:26:02![]() Wanted to make sure, I have seen issues with a lot of wireless USB cards and Vista or 7 and wanted to rule that out as a possibility. Unfortunately they do not always show up in the DXDiag so I have to ask. You may need to exit any programs you have running in the background to improve performance and stability. We recommend running in a selective startup if possible. When you are booting your computer in Selective Startup, please keep in mind that you are disabling every application that normally starts up with your computer. This may include firewall and security software that you would normally want to have on. After you are finished testing, you should re-enable your security software. Selective Startup: Hold the Windows key on your keyboard and press the letter 'R'. In the Run field type "msconfig" and hit Enter. In the General tab: 1. Choose Selective Startup 2. Disable (uncheck) Load startup items 3. Click OK and Reboot Note: Using selective startup may close needed software, firewalls or other security software. To re-enable them again, follow the above instructions and recheck "Load startup items". For more information about closing background applications, check our support site here: http://u Technical support needs your feedback. by Charlesps | 10/03/2010 03:05:54![]() Realtek is a really popular network card developer. They are probably a common factor in a lot of systems that report issues but because of how prevalent they are i would not jump to looking at an issue specifically with Realtek cards. Can you let me know what drivers you are using for the card? - Click Start . - Click Control Panel . If there is an option in the upper left to 'Switch to classic view', then do so. - Click System . - Click the Hardware tab, then click the Device Manager button near the middle. - Expand the Network Adapters category. Make note of the network card name and model listed. - Double click on the network card listed. - Click the Driver tab and make note of the driver Date and Version.
