Revealing building Locations

I understand the reason for having buildings revealed as soon as the last Command Center/Nexus/Hatchery is destroyed. But it also gives free information to your enemy and provides zero chance for a recovery. I know we don't want to spend 10 minutes searching a map for a floating barracks or a hidden pylon and there does need to be a system to reveal those.

What I have a problem is in 2v2 a ally gets destroyed, but has a expansion hidden away. In sc1 this expansion could have remained hidden and built back up to be a threat (theoretically) because the enemies would be focusing the ally that still has his base up in running. Right now as it stands the enemy immediately knows there is a expansion somewhere, and they set out to find it.

The current system leads to faster games. But I think over all it ruins the quality of the matches. Is there any system that could be implemented that would not take away this part of the game, but still manage to stop players from hiding buildings in various locations of the map after the game is over?
