Question about Changelings in FFA/Team Games

So in team games/FFA matches where there are multiple races on each side and you, the Zerg player, try to use a changeling. What would happen as you cross multiple players or worse are trying to observe a pitch battle? would the changeling constantly be transforming between the various races during the chaos?

What about the computer AI versus a changeling? How it will determine whether or not it's found out a changeling is being used against it?

An alternate implementation I was thinking of was where the changeling's morph simply acts as a undetectable cloak (or where the detector must sit right on top of the changeling to detect it) and you manually choose which race/player color it should imitate (you don't have to be close). Let's say you as the green Zerg transform it to a yellow-player Zealot Then you see it as a Zealot (maybe a zergish-brownish zealot) and the enemy sees nothing - not even the cloak shimmer. Another player will see the yellow-player Zealot. The morph or lifespan of the unit would be on a timer. This is really not that op, despite that Zerg can lay down more changelings than Terrans can scan, scan detects units, changelings simply provide vision. There could be other nerfs as well, such as the radius of detection, morph-time, energy costs, changeling needing energy to morph, etc ...

The changeling's transformation is permanent. Once it is within range of opposing forces, it will transform to that race's basic tier 1 unit (marine, zealot, or zergling) and remain so for its duration. In the case of a team game or FFA where there are multiple races, the changeling will transform to the race it encounters first and not change again.

Q u o t e:

Are the changelings actually useful in high level 1v1 play? Honest answer.

I definitely think you will see them used effectively, even in high level 1v1 play. Who wouldn't want an essentially free scout (only costs energy) to use to gather intel on their opponent? With the potential that you opponent might not kill it immediately, it can provide you with a sustained scouting advantage. Even high level players can get caught up in harassment, or base management and may miss this little guy sneaking into their base.
