Intermittent massive frame rate drop

I've noticed that regardless of how much action is occurring on the screen I will randomly get 7ish seconds of really painful frame rate drop that makes playing almost impossible. This will go away after seven seconds or so.

The difference between when it is happening and when it is like flipping a light switch. There's no grey area. This can happen when I'm in the middle of my worker split (i.e. nearly zero happening on screen) or in the middle of a huge battle and I can watch it end in the middle of a huge battle and have the frame rate back up to 40ish which is normal for me.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? I've only seen this huge performance degradation while using SC2 beta and I've disabled pretty much every other background program running but my antivirus, which is not scanning.

Thanks. =(

Onepool,

Make sure your system is not overheating. Be sure to clear out any dust, especially around your video card and make sure there is proper circulation in your system.

You can also use the following program to monitor your max system temps while playing Wow:

Onepool,

Q u o t e:
What temperature ranges are considered overheating? I don't see this information on the packaging or papers that came with my GPU.

Thanks.
What video card are you using and what Max GPU temps were you receiving?

Onepool,

Q u o t e:
I haven't been able to recreate the issue yet since downloading this tool, but my max temp has been 211 degrees F. Is that very high?

I'm using an ASUS NVIDIA EN9600GT

edit: typo
That's running too hot for that card in my opinion. It's probably what's causing the FPS drops.
