Has the Colossus changed in recent builds?

Watching the 2nd Yellow vs. Sonkie battle I'm reminded of how frustrating it was to watch the Colossus being used and consequently failing miserably. The degree of control that unit has looks like it could be rendered obsolete when contrasted against more flexible Protoss warriors such as the Stalker and Zealot.

Has the development team experimented with any significant changes to this units attack mechanic that you'd like to share with us? I realize this has been said many times before, but the Colossus really does seem underwhelming, and I'm curious what ideas you're considering to address this, short of number tweaking.

Thanks.

If I'm not mistaken, the increased the attack cooldown, but increased damage to 45, so it blows away Zerglings/Marines/Probes/Drones in one arcing shot.

Yup, though the damage has since been reduced to 40 per attack wave. This is enough to one shot Marines, so it is quite dominating against Marine/Medivac combos. Having 2 or 3 Colossi together will decimate groups of Marines, Zerglings, Hydralisks. Nonetheless, focus firing Colossi with +armor damage type units will bring them down pretty quickly.

Thanks for a response Karune. So from the sounds of it nothing substantial changed in its attack mechanic short of some number adjustments? That would still leave it with a whimsical attack with little degree of control to the user. So while it might be devastating with a buffed attack, its seemingly random linear pattern could lead to frustration at high levels of play...even moreso with a longer cooldown. All the micro in the world doesn't help when your AOE attack cannot be controlled effectively.

In your experience using the Colossus, do you find this to be the case? Or will it be possible to dance the unit around to get your best spread of damage? With a hellion and lurker you can accomplish this, but I've seen the Colossus attack using inconsistent patterns based on what unit it attacks first.

The Colossus always attacks in a linear area horizontal to where the Colossus is facing. This does take a little more coordination than a Hellion or Lurker, but will no doubt still be possible at a high skill level of play.
