Anyone know where the source of my lag is?

My friend and I are on the same network in the same building on a college campus and the computers are nearly identical except he has Vista and I have XP. I get stuttering lag which gets worse based on the number of players in a game. Do you think it has to do with the difference of operating systems? How could I fix it?

Hello Mot

Can you post some information about your computer? You can find this information in the Direct X Diagnostic Tool:

Press the Windows Key and R
Type in: dxdiag
Hit Enter or OK

Click on the Save All Information button at the bottom, and create a dxdiag text file, and copy and paste the data from the dxdiag file into your reply.

Are you using the wireless card or the wired card?

The wireless card has drivers form 2006. You might be able to find the latest drivers here:
http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/wireless/linksys

The wired card does not have drivers installed. Drivers should be available here:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&;PNid=13&PFid=5&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

Also, if you are using a wireless connection you may want to try a wired one. Wireless signals can suffer from a lot of interference.
