All settings Equal, PC client destroys MAC
by Thegapingmaw | 01/05/2010 00:31:19![]() I have been playing using Bootcamp in Win7x64 Ultimate on this hardware: Model Name: Mac Pro Model Identifier: MacPro3,1 Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon Processor Speed: 3.2 GHz Number Of Processors: 2 Total Number Of Cores: 8 L2 Cache (per processor): 12 MB Memory: 14 GB Bus Speed: 1.6 GHz NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT: Chipset Model: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT Type: GPU Bus: PCIe Slot: Slot-1 PCIe Lane Width: x16 VRAM (Total): 512 MB With these settings: Fullscreen 1920x1200x32bits Texture: Medium Post processing: Medium Reflections: On Effects: Ultra Shaders: High Light: High Shadows Medium Terrain: High Physics: Ultra Models: High Portraits: 2D This all worked fine in Windows 7. It does not work fine in Snow Leopard 10.6.3. Everything feels laggy, gameplay is choppy, almost slow motion. There is no version of fraps for Mac, so I'm not sure how I could provide Mac FPS info, but it just feels like crap. This is not helped by Apple's "smarter than end-user" unmodifiable mouse acceleration which makes it almost impossible to select a specific unit or selection of troops in your army when you're in a hurry. This could be a combination of the frame rate and mouse acceleration issues, but it also seems like the mouse will get stuck in the corner when scrolling down and to the left, forcing you to overcompensate and miss whatever area of the map you were actually trying to get to. Is there any way Blizzard could add a mac gameplay option to kill mouse acceleration? The "Reduce Mouse Lag" checkbox doesn't seem to help. They did such a good job with Frozen Throne Mac, there must be a way to show this one some love as well. |
